Billing & Refund Policy

Last updated June 2026 · Contact support@engineerjournal.app
TermsPrivacyBilling & Refunds

This Billing & Refund Policy explains how Engineer Journal subscriptions, renewals, cancellations, usage budgets, failed payments, and refunds work. It is part of our Terms of Service. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Plans and pricing

Engineer Journal offers a Free plan and paid monthly plans — currently Starter ($6/month) and Pro ($12/month). Plan features, prices, and usage budgets are shown in the app and at checkout. By starting a paid plan, you authorize Engineer Journal and Stripe to charge your selected payment method for the recurring fee plus any applicable taxes, until you cancel.

Monthly subscriptions and renewal

Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe and renew automatically at the start of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal. Your billing period is based on the date your paid subscription starts, as reflected in Stripe and the app.

Preview and trials

We may offer a time-limited preview of paid features (for example, a Starter preview) without requiring a payment method. When a preview ends, your account returns to the Free plan unless you choose to upgrade — you are not charged automatically for a preview that did not collect payment details. Preview and trial terms are shown when the offer is made and may change.

Usage and the monthly summary budget

Each plan includes a monthly summary budget. Generating summaries — including single-PR, daily, weekly, sprint, and performance-review summaries, and backfills — draws from that budget. The budget resets at the start of each billing period and unused budget does not roll over.

Saved summaries can generally be reused without consuming additional budget. If you reach your budget, the Service may limit, delay, or pause additional generation until the budget resets, you upgrade, or we adjust your account.

Cancellation

You can cancel anytime from the billing portal (reachable from Settings) or by contacting support@engineerjournal.app. When you cancel, your paid plan stays active through the end of the current paid period and is not renewed afterward; your account then returns to the Free plan.

Canceling does not automatically delete your account or revoke GitHub access, and revoking GitHub access does not cancel your subscription — handle each separately if you intend to do more than cancel.

Plan changes

You can move between Starter and Pro from the billing portal. Plan changes apply going forward, and any proration, credits, or invoice adjustments are handled by Stripe according to the configuration in effect at the time. Your available monthly budget reflects the plan you are on for the current period.

Failed and past-due payments

If a payment fails, Stripe may retry it and we may ask you to update your payment method. We may pause or limit paid features while your account is past due, and if payment remains unresolved your subscription may be canceled or downgraded. You remain responsible for amounts you owe.

Refunds

Because plans are billed monthly and usage is consumed during the period, payments are generally non-refundable and we do not prorate partial months. We generally do not refund unused time or budget, forgetting to cancel, or not using the Service.

We may, at our discretion, issue a refund or credit in exceptional cases such as a duplicate charge or a billing error, and nothing in this policy limits rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection laws.

Taxes

Prices are exclusive of taxes unless stated otherwise. You are responsible for any applicable sales, use, VAT, or similar taxes, except taxes based on our income. Where required or configured, Stripe may calculate and collect taxes at checkout.

Price and plan changes

We may change plan prices, features, or budgets from time to time. If a change affects your active subscription, we will provide notice as required by law or payment-provider rules. Continuing to use the paid Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated pricing or plan; if you do not agree, cancel before it takes effect.
